Treating indigestion with catnip
Believe it or not, catnip is a great herb
for treating indigestion. It's a member of
the mint family, and is best known for the bizarre
behavioral effects it has on cats. Of course,
catnip doesn't cause any such behavior in humans.
But, catnip does contain excellent nutritional
properties that are beneficial for the human
digestive system.
Catnip is a good source of iron, selenium,
potassium, manganese and chromium. It also
contains moderate amounts of other minerals and
vitamins.
Catnip provides antispasmodic properties that
have a soothing and relaxing effect on the
digestive system, relieving diarrhea, flatulence,
indigestion, upset stomach and headaches. It's
also beneficial for treating abdominal and menstrual
cramping, as well as chronic coughing.
In addition to being an excellent digestive aid,
catnip helps lower fevers and is good for alleviating
sleeplessness and insomnia.
